TEACHING IN THE EARLY YEARS: OFSTED’S DEFINITION

Teaching in the early years should not be taken to imply a ‘top down’ or formal way of working. It is a broad term that covers the many different ways in which adults help young children learn. It includes their interactions with children during planned and child-initiated play and activities: communicating and modelling language; showing; explaining; demonstrating; exploring ideas; encouraging; questioning; recalling; providing a narrative for what they are doing; facilitating and setting challenges.”

Sensory Area

CurioCity Childcare is one of the very few of the nurseries to have a separate cosy sensory room. Research has shown that children who are regularly involved in active and sensory play develop well on many levels, including physically, emotionally, mentally and socially. Active and exploratory soft play.

Garden

Despite the central city location, there’s still a small but exciting outdoor space that the children will access every day. There is a wide range of activities to keep the children busy when outside, including a music wall, sand play, water play, ball runs, small world play and more. We’ll be able to go outside every day, whatever the weather may be doing thanks to a canopy to keep off the heat of the sun and torrential downpours!

Food

A well balanced and nutritious diet is vital to a child’s development. Here at CurioCity Childcare our trained cook prepares fresh, healthy, tasty and nutritious meals for the children daily. Our four weekly menus have been carefully put together, using the guidance provided by the Children’s Food Trust to ensure we are providing a healthy, balanced and tasty diet.

Space

Our children benefit from light, well laid out rooms with outdoor facilities. Children love the garden and spend as much time as possible outdoors throughout the year. Our youngest children make the most of the baby unit, which is full of age-appropriate toys designed to stimulate and support their development. The comprehensive pre-school facilities, from which our children go on to the Reception classes of local schools as confident learners, offer plenty of opportunities for exploration and discovery. This gorgeous nursery was custom-designed and we did a full refurbishment allowing CurioCity Childcare to meticulously plan each of the rooms to exacting specifications. From the layout to the modern facilities and quality resources, every step has been taken in the design to ensure each room maximises opportunities for Early Years development.

WHAT THE OWNER SAYS

“It has been so wonderful to be part of this journey. I feel so fortunate to have been involved in shaping the nursery through the refurbishment, the recruitment of staff and the roll out of the CurioCity curriculum. We are so proud and excited to now be at the point where we are welcoming families through the door. We have worked tirelessly over the past few months to ensure we can offer outstanding quality in the setting, from the learning of new approaches to the training of our new staff team.Over the next few weeks, we will be welcoming lots of new babies and children to begin their childhood learning journey with us and we can’t wait to start building bonds and working in partnership with parents.”
